The tourist boat Ilinden, which sank in Lake Ohrid in Macedonia on September 5 leading to the death of 15 Bulgarian tourists, has been extracted from the lake two weeks after the tragedy.

The boat is currently located a hundred meters away from the coast and will be pulled to the channel Studenchishta in a few days by a ship of the Macedonian Interior Ministry.

The extraction of the ship has been performed under strict procedures by a Croatian company, specialized in this kind of underwater operations - Dubina.

The recovery of the Ilinden ship is expected to provide evidence on the cause of the tragedy which happened as Bulgarian tourists were enjoying their vacation on the Ohrid Lake.

The vessel Ilinden sank about 200 meters from the shore in the cold waters of Lake Ohrid around 11 a.m. local time (0500 E.T.) on September 5, the worst boat accident ever to happen there.

Lake Ohrid spans Macedonia's southwest border with Albania and is a popular tourist attraction. The deepest lake in the Balkans, it is known for its natural beauty and fishing.
