Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, has denied having aspirations to change the country's form of government from a parliamentary to presidential republic.

In an interview for BNT Friday night, Borisov explained the presidential republic idea belonged solely to former President Zhelyu Zhelev, and that he did not have anything to do with that, adding that his party had enough power in the current moment to carry out its policies.

The Prime Minister has made it clear that by setting three months to look at Bulgaria's three large-scale Russian-sponsored energy projects he was trying to find the best way to promote Bulgaria's national interests.

In his words, both Russia and Greece stand to earn billions from the planned Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline, while under the current agreement Bulgaria would be getting only USD 30 M per year while risking an environmental catastrophe.

Borisov, who returned from his first official visit to Brussels late Thursday night, said his delegation achieved what it wanted - i.e. unblocking of the country's SAPARD funds, and the start of a procedure for EUR 300 M of additional compensations for the Kozloduy NPP - but now his government was faced with huge challenges of realizing its political will into accelerated reform.

Earlier on Friday Borisov opened a new kindergarten in Sofia. He said he was to open eight more kindergartens in the overcrowded Bulgarian capital by the end of 2009.
