Paralyzed Bulgarian mountain climber, Ivan Kozhuharov, demonstrated Tuesday a striking example of spirit and courage by conquering Mont Blanc.

With a well prepared expert team Kozhuharov reached at 5 pm Bulgarian time on September 8 one of the most difficult peaks on the planet to climb.

An emotional Kozhuharov gave high marks to the team and to all those who had supported him through the endeavor. He said the climb had been very hard, filled with difficult moments.

One hour after reaching the peak, the group began descending the mountain to spend the night at a tent camp, 4,500 meters above sea level.

The climb began at 1:55 pm Tuesday.

Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the Alps and in Western Europe. It rises 4,810 m (15,781 ft) above sea level and is ranked 11th in the world in topographic prominence. The mountain lies between the regions of Aosta Valley, Italy, and Haute-Savoie, France.
