Bulgaria's Prime, Boyko Borisov, and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, are going to meet in Gdansk, Poland, on September 1, 2009.

This was confirmed Friday by the press office of the Bulgarian government. The news was first announced by the press service of the Russian government Thursday night, after Borisov and Putin held a telephone conversation. It is unclear why the Bulgarian government press department did not release the news simultaneously.

Thus, Borisov and Putin will have their first meeting in Gdansk, where several state leaders are going to participate in the remembrance events for the 70th year since the start of World War II.

Among those expected to attend are Poland's President Lech Kaczynski, Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel, and Fredrik Reinfeldt, Prime Minister of Sweden, which holds the rotating EU Presidency.

In his interview for Nova TV Friday morning, the Bulgarian Prime Minister Borisov indicated that Putin might visit Sofia in November 2009 for a meeting of the Inter-governmental Working Committee on the three joint energy projects.

"Thank you for your attitude. I know that you have a black belt in karate, and I have a black belt in judo. This is how I want us to talk to each other," Putin told Borisov in their Thursday's telephone conversation, in Borisov's own words.
