Bulgaria has asked the EC that the introduction of the EU dairy products requirements be postponed for two years.

This has been announced by the Bulgarian Information Agency BTA, citing sources from the European Commission's Directorate General for Health and Consumers.

The Bulgarian request will be discussed in September by the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health, in which all the EU members have representatives.

"We expect that the Committee will take its decision in the middle of September. If it is possitive, Bulgaria will have the postponement. The European Commission will not stand on the way of the adjournment", the Directorate informed.

Not long ago, the Chair of the Bulgarian Parliament Committee on Agriculture, Desislava Taneva, said that there were undergoing talks with Brussels for postponement of the introduction of the diary production rules.

Originally, it should be completed until January 1, 2010, but the Bulgarian milk producers are not ready for this.
