A child injured in a car crash in Bulgaria that left two of his relatives dead is flying home to Derby, BBC reported.

According to the report Dillon Shaw's father, Steve, had to raise GBP 15,000 for the flight after discovering he was not insured.

The 10-year-old has not yet been told his great-aunt, Gerry McLeod, 54, and second cousin Paul McLeod, 11, died in the accident in the resort of Varna.

A Bulgarian adult in the same car was also killed when it was hit by a bus, according to reports, on 21 August.

Shaw said: "It will be a great relief to see Dillon. I have been distraught over the last few days.

"He is obviously in a lot of pain and regularly sedated.

"I should be able to meet him at the airport on Friday evening and travel with him in the ambulance to hospital."

He paid tribute to Gerry, a former Derby City Council traffic warden, and Paul, a promising footballer.
"The effect on the family has been devastating.

"I can't console my cousin who has lost her mother and son. It's a terrible tragedy.

"Paul had been scouted by Derby County, he was a credit to the family and will be greatly missed."

Shaw told BBC he is now helping his cousin Sally raise the GBP 6,000 she needs to bring home the bodies of her mother and son.
