Hundreds of people attended Wednesday the funeral of Bulgaria's former Deputy Prime Minister, Alexander Bozhkov, at the St. Sofia Church in Sofia.

The funeral was attended by two acting Bulgarian Ministers - Minister of Defense, Nikolay Mladenov, who formerly belonged to Bozhkov's party, the Union of Democratic Forces, and Traicho Traikov, Minister of Economy, Energy, and Tourism.

"I've known Mr. Bozhkov since the time he was the head of the Privatization Agncy, and even though no one can claim that he found the ideal decisions, he had an active and seeking mind, with fresh attitude, and curiosity for things. I have always thought much of him," Minister Traikov said.

"Alexander Bozhkov can be proudly called one of the builders of contemporary Bulgaria. He was one of the wisest people I knew. I think we can learn a lot from what he wrote and did during his life", Defense Minister Mladenov said.

The funeral was also attended by Bulgaria's former Prime Minister Ivan Kostov, whose Deputy Bozhkov was in 1997-1999, and by the other Co-Chair of the Blue Coalition, Martin Dimitrov.

Former President, Petar Stoyanov (1997-2002), and former Sofia Mayor, Stefan Sofiyanski, as well as number of former and current top figures of the UDF party were among those who paid last tribute to the Alexander Bozhkov.

Those who attended the funeral were so many they had to wait in a long line in front of the St. Sofia Church.
