Bulgaria's former Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, has reached the conclusion that his successor, the GERB party leader, Boyko Borisov, did not know the meaning of the term "witch hunt".

"As far as I managed to follow yesterday's extravagant statements of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, apparently, he doesn't know what "witch hunt" means. I could inform the Prime Minister about it, I am a historian, after all", Stanishev, who is now a MP from his Socialist Party, stated in Parliament Thursday.

"The term "which hunt" comes from the period after the Reformation when thousands of innocent people, mostly women, were unjustly accused and burned on the stake; today, this expression is used as a description of political accusations and purges", Stanishev said.

On Tuesday, Stanishev commented on the removal of top-ranking government officials by the Borisov cabinet, calling it a "witch hunt".

PM Borisov retorted that with this comment Stanishev himself qualified his former Ministers as "witches", and said, "We are going to hunt the witches and bring them to justice".
