Junk Food Thrown out of Bulgaria Schools

All kinds of fried food, carbonated drinks, and sweets will be thrown out of the snack shops in all Bulgarian schools.

The Bulgarian Health Ministry have announced Thursday that all these measure are included in a decree signed by the former Health Minister, Evgeniy Zhelev, in his last working day.

The decree sets as a start date for the measures September 15, when the school year begins.

French fries, chips, carbonated drinks, sweets that contain high levels of fats and sugar, cakes, donuts, and many other foods, considered potentially dangerous for the youngsters will be banned for sale in school.

However, traditional Bulgarian foods like banichki and buns, as well as sandwiches will be sold.

The new decree includes a list of the foods that must be present in the diet of the students - fresh vegetable, milk, yogurt, other deary products. The children should eat fish once a week. If there is pork or beef they must be without fats, and the chicken meat must be without skin.
