Bulgaria's Former Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, to be nominated to run for mayor of the capital Sofia.

This has been suggested Sunday by ex-Deputy Finance Minister and current Sofia city councilor from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), Georgi Kadiev, the Bulgarian National Radio reported.

According to him, the partial local elections in Sofia are not a lost cause, and key BSP figures should run in the voting.

"It is not right to head the election ballots only when we are winners, and when difficult times are coming to let someone else to do our job", Kadiev said.

BSP will be ready with the Sofia Mayor candidate until September 5, he added. There will be internal party elections in September and one candidate will be nominated, Kadiev explained.

Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov has set November 15, 2009, as the date of the partial local elections in Sofia and in the northwest city of Vratsa.

Sofia and Vratsa will have to elect new mayors as the already Sofia Mayor, Boyko Borisov, became Prime Minister in July, and appointed the former Vratsa Mayor, Totyu Mladenov, the Labor Minister in his government of the GERB party.
