It will take just 20 minutes on the metro to get from the Mladost quarter to the Obelya neighborhood of Sofia from September 7, local officials reported Friday.

The section of the metro line between Vasil Levski stadium and Serdika will be opened on September 7, the Director of the Sofia municipality metro project, Stoyan Bratoev stated.

Thus, the Bulgarian capital will finally have one complete subway line, which will be long 18 km, and will have 14 metro stations. It will connect Sofia's two most populous quarters - Mladost and Lyulin - through the downtown of the city.

The new section of the Sofia Metro has been financed by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, with a total cost of USD 104 M.

Bratoev added that the new Metro section will cut the amount of traffic on Tsarigradsko Shose and cut Sofia's traffic expenditure by between 3-4%.
