Ex-Interior Minister and Coalition for Bulgaria MP, Rumen Petkov, has stated that he will sue the current Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, for slander.

Petkov said that Djankov's recent statement, suggesting that he had failed to implement a live connection between the customs' information systems and the tax authorities, amounted to slander.

Petkov said that the customs' information systems and the tax authorities worked under the Ministry of Finance so he had no power to influence their work when he was Interior Minister. He added that Djankov had shown how incompetent he was and that after six months people would see the effects of Djankov's "holiday" in the country.

Petkov concluded that Djankov had also slandered him by suggesting that four helicopters that his Ministry bought were not used for the correct purposes. He stated that they were needed for Bulgaria to conform to the Schengen Agreement.
