Top German Magazine: Bulgaria Borders Fraught with Fraud, Corruption

The largest German magazine, ADAC Motorwelt, warns in its August issue about blatant corruption, frauds, and administrative abuse on the Bulgarian borders.

The ADAC Motorwelt, which is the publication of the largest automobile club in Europe ADAC, writes about repeating frauds on the Bulgarian border crossing points committed by corrupt officers.

Those include a requirement of a medical document that the German citizen trying to enter Bulgaria was not infected with swine flu. Those who do not have this document are threatened by a fine but in fact no such document exists.

The article points out providing a link to the website of the Bulgarian Embassy in Berlin proving further the absurdity of the situation: the link contains a letter from the Bulgarian Embassy stating that the Bulgarian authorities do not require any such document for entering Bulgaria, and asking German citizens to alert the Bulgarian Embassy in Berlin if border officers attempt to blackmail them with the non-existing requirement.

The ADAC Motorwelt Magazine also warns about another violation on the Bulgarian borders - border officers tell the foreign citizens that they ran out of weekly vignettes, and try to sell them the more expensive monthly vignettes, or even annual vignettes. At the same time, the Bulgarian authorities claim there are sufficient numbers of weekly vignettes available at all Bulgarian border crossing points.
