The Supreme Cassation Court has referred back to the Court of Appeals the trial over the death of a young man in a fountain in downtown Sofia in May 2005.

Defendants in the case were Georgi Zenginov, Vassil Kamenov and Simeon Kralev, who are charged with culpable negligence.

Two years ago Vassil Kamenov, the chief executive of the company that owned the fountain, was found guilty by Sofia City Court, but only subject to administrative punishment, in this case a fine of BGN 1000.

Georgi Zenginov, the former general manager of the company that supervised the fountain, and Simeon Kralev, the manager of the company that built it, were cleared.

The applicant, the mother of the dead 34-year-old Vesselin Marinov, has vowed to continue her efforts to bring to justice the city hall officials responsible for her son's death.

Slaveykov Square, where the killer fountain is located, hosts the city's most popular book market, and is also one of the busiest locations in downtown Sofia.
