No Corruption Evidence Found in Economics University in Sofia

The internal investigation at the University of National and World Economy in Sofia has found no evidence of corruption.

This was announced by the university administration on Wednesday; the investigation was started after the Assistant Professor Petkan Iliev was recently arrested for corruption and organizing a scheme in which students paid between BGN 300 and BGN 4 000 to pass exams at the UNWE or to be admitted.

The internal investigation only concluded that Iliev had been doing his job conscientiously. Nonetheless, the prosecution and police are continuing the investigation against Iliev, who is also a popular public analyst and textbook author.

The UNWE in Sofia is often rumored to be a hub of corruption; a popular line from a 2005 rap song of the Bulgarian hip hop band Upsurt talks about "a special offer in the UNWE - you get to pass three exams for 200 deutsche marks and one pig".
