Martin Zaimov, the right-wing runner in the local elections for Sofia mayor in 2007, is willing to join the contest again, but only if he gets the support of the current mayor and next prime minister Boyko Borisov.

"I would run for Sofia mayor only with the approval of Boyko Borisov," Martin Zaimov, who was defeated by Borisov in the 2007 race, told BGNES news agency.

He stressed that as a member of the municipal council he defends the rights of all 67,000 voters who backed him in the elections, but conceded he can do much more.

Meanwhile Boyko Borisov, current mayor of the capital and future prime minister of the country, hinted that he will pick his deputy Minko Gerdzhikov to temporarily take on the post.

As current Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov is set to become Prime Minister of Bulgaria after the election victory of his party GERB, the Bulgarian capital is going to elect new mayor on October 24.
