At least six are feared dead after a passenger train has been derailed Friday in southern Croatia Friday injuring about 20 others.

The fast train from the capital, Zagreb, to Split derailed shortly after noon (12.08 pm) in the village of Rudine, about 30 kilometers from its destination, emergency official Darko Marinkovic said, as cited by The Los Angeles Times.

The train is used by many Croatians traveling to the coast during the summer. It was not immediately clear if foreigners were aboard the train.

An investigation on the cause of the derailment has already been initiated, officials reported.

Croatian television footage shows one carriage broken in half.

Emergency workers at the scene have reported six deaths and 20 injuries. 90 passengers have been reported to have been aboard the train.

Hospital officials said 50 people were being treated, but many of them were in shock.
