Bulgaria's former Deputy Prime Minister, Meglena Plugchieva, said Wednesday that the latest European Commission report is better than the one presented a year ago.

The 2009 Report of the European Commission under the mechanism to monitor Bulgaria's post-accession progress has been presented Wednesday, once again criticizing the country for failing to crack down on high-level corruption and organized crime.

According to Plugchieva, the report shows some progress in the interaction of the authorities in the managing and control of European funds. However, the process could have been paster and more efficient, she added.

As an improvement she pointed the work of the special department of the Prosecutor's Office, created as the European Anti-Fraud office (OLAF) advised. The department has been headed by te GERB Justice Minister nominee, Margarita Popova.

Plugchieva added that what had been achieved was a good foundation for the next government.
