Bulgaria's PM-to-be, Boyko Borisov, announced Monday morning his nomination for the Justice Minister in the new GERB party cabinet - Prosecutor Margarita Popova.
Currently, Popova is a spokesperson of the Chief Prosecutor Boris Velchev, and is also in charge of a unit in the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office that investigates fraud involving EU funds.
Popova's nomination was revealed after Borisov spoke with the Nova TV about Sunday's scandal, in which the leader of the conservative RZS ("Order, Law, Justice") party, Yane Yanev, claimed that Borisov had sent an SMS text message to his deputy, Dimitar Abadzhiev, inviting him to become Justice Minister.
"It's not like we are dating, how can we be SMS texting and calling each other. Not only have I not sent any SMS text messages but also I did not have my mobile phone with me," Borisov said regarding Yanev's claims.
A printout of the call and SMS text log of Borisov's phone number, from which the RZS party claimed its Deputy Chair Abadzhiev was SMS texted, is going to be available in the press center of the GERB party later on Monday, in order to prove Borisov's refutation of Yanev's statement.
Regarding his Justice Minister nominee, the future PM of Bulgaria said he had talked to the Chief Prosecutor, Boris Velchev, and had made consultations with Brussels, and that Popova was very well received.
