EUR 166 000 and BGN 90 000 have been stolen from the safety vault of First Investment Bank in Bulgaria's southern town of Gotse Delchev.

Local police declines comments on the case and their Chief, Angel Poykov, is on summer vacation.

The security cameras reveal the robbery took place during the weekend but the missing cash was discovered Wednesday because none of the bank's employees had gone to the vault since Friday.

Darik radio reports, citing undisclosed sources, that three young men are the prime suspects in the case.

The three arrived in the town about a week ago and rented an office space in close proximity to the bank, prepaid several months rent, saying they were going to use the office for business.

The perpetrators had entered the vault through a small hole in the brick wall leading to the bank.

Just a month earlier the police had checked the bank branch and recommended to the management to up security and install equipment reacting to vibrations, something that had not been done before the robbery.
