F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone will visit Bulgaria in the coming weeks for further talks on the possibility of bringing a Formula 1 race to the country.

On Sunday Ecclestone attended a 1 hour meeting with a team led by the Bulgarian organizing committee chairman and ex-Interior Minister Rumen Petkov, after the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring.

Bulgaria is hoping to secure a 10-year deal, starting from 2011 or 2012.

Hungary is currently the only grand prix in eastern Europe but neighbouring Turkey is most likely to give way to any Bulgarian race.

This year's grand prix in Istanbul attracted a small crowd, with only 36 000 three-day tickets sold, and local organisers there have expressed concern that their contract could end in 2011.

Meanwhile German F1 driver Sebastian Vettel stated that "if there are plenty of Bulgarian race fans it would be nice to go there."
