The Swedish Ambassador to Bulgaria, Paul Beijer, is convinced that there is no need for expanding the monitoring mechanism of EU for Bulgaria.

However, Ambassador Beijer said that eventually there could be such actions by the EU.

He stressed that we should wait for the European Commission report to be ready. It will highlight the progress that Bulgaria made, and the issued that Bulgaria must solve.

Only after that, there should be a discussion whether Bulgaria must be monitored, and if the country will be ready with the needed reforms until the end of 2009.

The Czech Republic passed the EU presidency to Sweden on July 1 in times of difficult decisions and European countries suffering the severe consequences of the global financial crisis.
