Roma Gang Kills Orchard Guard in Southwest Bulgaria

A man has been killed, and another man and a women have been severely wounded after they were beaten by a Roma gang in southwest Bulgaria.

The three men guarded a cherry orchard in the village of Shishkovtsi, Kyustendil Municipality. The whole incident started Thursday afternoon when several Roma tried to raid the cherry orchard in the village but were chased away by the two men, and the woman who guard it, Darik Radio reported.

The Roma gang returned, probably seeking revenge, around 9 pm on Thursday, captured the three guards, who were unarmed, beat them severely, and stolen their mobile phones leaving them in a helpless condition. According to the surviving guards they were assaulted by at least ten people.

The guard who died of the beating is called Plamen, and is 46. The other man is in the Kyustendil hospital, and his life is in danger; both of his legs are broken, and so are several of his fingers and ribs; he has severe chest and stomach injuries. The woman is also hospitalized both of her legs are broken.

The three guards were discovered Friday morning by the owner of the cherry orchard Dimitar Aleksov, and a cousin of his. The police is investigating the case, the perpetrators still have not been arrested.

The cherry orchard is located about 5 km away from the village of Shishkovtsi.
