The arrest of Agim Ceku, Kosovo's former prime minister, by Bulgarian police stoked tensions in the region and caused embarrassment for Sofia, which recognises Kosovo despite misgivings about its declaration of independence last year, the Financial Times commented in its latest edition.
Bulgarian police arrested Mr Ceku on an Interpol warrant on Tuesday as he entered from Macedonia. Serbia asked Bulgaria for his extradition, while prosecutors extended his detention to 72 hours.
Serbian prosecutors accuse him of command responsibility for the murders of 669 Serbs and 18 other non-Albanians during Kosovo's war for independence.
