A team of policemen from the northwestern Danube city of Vidin stormed in a family house and beat and arrested the wrong couple.

The information was reported Wednesday for Darik radio by Yuli Petrov, a Vidin resident and an eyewitness of the incident.

The Vidin police confirmed they entered the wrong house over a false signal, but firmly denied beating the people inside.

The Vidin police reportedly received a signal for a mass fight between 30 to 40 people and began the search for one of those involved, said to have escaped in a car. The police noticed the car in question in front of a house and decided to storm inside.

The witness insists that masked people busted the door and never identified themselves.

"I heart them talking they were in the wrong house. Two other policemen jumped over the fence, went to my first floor neighbor, broke his door too, beat him and his wife, handcuffed them and yelled at them," Petrov said.

The Regional Police Directorate in Vidin says they have no information about the beatings. Their spokesperson explained that the mistake happened because the car of the person the police was searching for was parked in front of Petrov's house.

Petrov is going to file a formal complaint against the police actions.
