The Presidential Elections in the Ukraine have been scheduled for January 17, 2010, the country's Parliament (Verkhovna Rada) decided Tuesday.

The Parliament overwhelmingly approved the decision with 399 votes out of a total of 450 MPs, ITAR-TASS reported.

Ukraine's Parliament had scheduled the Presidential Elections for October 25, 2009, but President Viktor Yushchenko disputed the decision and took it to the Constitutional Court, which ruled in his favor.

President Viktor Yushchenko, who took power after the 2004 Orange Revolution, is to run for a reelection.

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, Yushchenko's former ally, has also announced her intention to run.

The leader of the pro-Russian Regions Party, Viktor Yanukovich, is going to be the other major contender.
