Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, said Thursday that Bulgaria would like to have a Bulgarian EU Commissioner for Energy.
Upon his arrival for the EU Council Summit in Brussels Thursday, Stanishev declared that at this point Bulgaria was not really thinking of the name of its new EC Commissioner but rather of the possibility to receive an essential portfolio in the Commission such as the Energy sector, the government press service announced.
Bulgaria's present EU Commissioner, Meglena Kuneva, is in charge of consumer protection. The present Commissioner for Energy is the Latvian Andris Piebalgs who is known for his firm position regarding Russia's energy policy in Europe.
Bulgaria, on the other hand, is a country committed with three large-scale energy projects on its territory, and is almost 100% dependent on Russia for energy import
