The Ruse Regional Court has kept the three Bulgarian municipality councilors who were arrested on Thursday for taking bribes behind bars.
Judge Damaskinov stated that it was unlikely that the three would try to escape from the authorities if they were released, but he did not give them the chance of bail as he suggested that they might carry out other illegal acts.
Todor Petrov, Nikolay Stanchev and Viktor Epshtain were arrested on Thursday after receiving part of a bribe that the police had been informed about.
The payment was made for permission to build a property in the Zdravets quarter of Ruse. Petrov and Stanchev asked for BGN 30 000 to give planning permission and were arrested when BGN 15 000 was delivered to them.
At the moment of the arrest it also became clear that Ruse businessman Viktor Epshtain was also involved.
