A composite picture shows accused Adem Yilmaz, Atilla Selek, Fritz Gelowicz and Daniel Schneider (L-R) at the Higher Regional Court in Duesseldorf.

The alleged terrorists formed the so called Sauerland cell, accused of plotting to kill Americans in Germany, bought detonation devices from Bulgaria.

This became clear during a session of the German court, 24 Chasa Daily (24 Hours) reported Wednesday.

The suspects bought the explosives detonators from and Algerian, who was later sentenced for the murder of three Georgians.

The Algerian bought the detonators from a Turkish man, named Mevluk K.

Three of the detonators were Serbian, and two- Bulgarian.

Mevluk is considered a radical islamist, who works for both secret services of the US and Turkey.

Prosecutors say the suspects planned attacks designed to be as destructive as the September 11, 2001 strikes in the United States, and had identified bars, clubs and the US Ramstein air base as possible targets.

German investigators began monitoring the group in early 2007 and arrested it on September 4 same year.

The trial was expected to last two years but presiding judge, Ottmar Breidling, said it could now be shortened by a year.

The charges against the four men include preparing bomb attacks and being members of a terrorist organization. If convicted, they face up to 15 years in jail.
