Tanzanian Ahmed Ghailani has become the first of the prisoners kept at the Guantanamo Bay detention center who will be put on trial in the USA.

Ghailani has been transferred by the Obama Administration to the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan, and will be in court later on Tuesday, the Washington Post has reported.

The Tanzanian detainee is facing charges of being involved in the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania which killed 224 people, including 12 Americans.

Ghailani's moving is an important step towards the the implementation of the Obama Administration plan to shut down the notorious Guantanamo detention facility, and to have all detainees be put on trial.
