Bulgaria's special police arrested during a Thursday raid people from the closest circle of alleged underworld boss Zlatomir Ivanov aka Zlatko Baretata (The Barret).

The raid took place at the upscale Kempinski Hotel Zografski in the capital, Sofia around 11 am when masked police employees entered the hotel and detained five men.

The news was reported by Darik Radio.

The Interior Ministry confirmed the arrests were part of a counteraction against a Sofia organized crime group dealing with illegal drug trafficking, racketeering, robberies, shark loans and prostitution, but refused to offer further details.

Darik radio informs the five men belong to the closest circle around Baretata and lists them as Serafim Antonov, Dimitar Kukev, Hristo Zlatkov, Petar Valchanov, and Borislav Borislavov.

The most notorious names among them are those of Antonov aka Fikata and Borislavov aka Bobi Belyata (The Trouble).

Fikata has been arrested in 2002 over allegations of an attempt to bomb a car repair shop, and later released. He was detained with traces of explosive on his hands and offered the explanation he has been fishing.

The Trouble was sentenced to 17 years behind bars for murder, but was later acquitted by the Appellate Curt and the Supreme Court of Cassations.

Baretata is, allegedly, linked to two murders for hire and three attempted murders and has been behind bars since February 6.
