Four of the 16 Bulgarian sailors who were held hostage for over 1 month by Somali pirates on board the Malaspina Castle have asked for greater compensation.

So far the sailors have allegedly only received an extra months wage as compensation. They have now held conversations with the boat's owner, Italian firm, B-Navi Ship Management regarding extra compensation.

Boatswain, Krasimir Kanchev, stated that he and three other sailors (Coxswain, Andrey Andreyev and sailors Vladimir Angelov and Ivan Ivanov), were unhappy with the compensation provided, bTV reported Wednesday.

The Malaspina Castle, which sails under a Panamanian flag, was hijacked by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden on April 6. After being held hostage for 33 days, the ship's crew of 24 sailors including 16 Bulgarians was freed in early May, against the payment of a reported ransom of USD 2 M.
