Over 6 Thousands Obsolete Buses Run on Bulgaria's Roads

Over 6 500 buses that are 15-years-old or older, have been issued carrier licenses in Bulgaria, Darik radio learned.

It became clear Tuesday that Bulgarian and European legislation do not include text, restricting the vehicle park's age.

The Chair of the Parliamentary Transport Commission, Iordan Mirchev, told Darik that there was plenty of compromise, regarding vehicle inspections, especially on local level where control was lower and "good relations for the sake of safety" was the rule.

On his part, the Head of the Bulgarian "Automobile Administration" Agency, Volodya Kirilov, promised he and his staff would do what is required by the Law to help alleviate the problem, such as differentiating the requirements and imposing environmental fees, adding he would also like to see Bulgarians ride in newer cars and buses.
