Bulgaria's Supreme Court of Cassations ruled Saturday to revoke the registration of the extremist, nationalist party Bulgarian National Union/ Guard.

The magistrates' decision came a month and a half after the Sofia City Court issued a decision to register the party.

The party's leader, Boyan Rasate, stated this was a move aimed to eliminate the party from the upcoming Bulgarian parliamentary elections because the Bulgarian National Union was the only alternative to the current system.

"They are simply afraid of us," Rasate said.

The party had declared on numerous occasions that they were going to boycott the European Parliament elections, but would run for seats in the Bulgarian Parliament
