Bulgaria's Yambol Buries Bus Accident Victims

The Bulgarian city of Yambol and the entire region are mourning for the third day the 17 victims killed during a tragic bus accident Wednesday.

More burials are scheduled for Sunday, among them the one of 16-year-old, Tsonio Ganev, from the village of Irechekovo, near the town of Straldzha. The boy was scheduled to perform at the Fair marking Spasovden. Three other women, from the same village, died during the accident.

83-year-old, Radka Pehlivanova, is still in critical condition in the Yambol hospital. The other five patients are listed in stable condition.

The owner of the bus, Slav Slavov, remains behind bars. The Yambol Regional Prosecutor's Office is going to request his permanent detention Monday.

The authorities have initiated an expertise of the 30-year-old bus. It will be conducted by a five-member panel. The entire documentation of the company, from the town of Elhovo, that did the bus' inspection on May 2 has been confiscated. Dozens of witnesses have already been interrogated.

The bus driver suffered a concussion. He is still unstable, and cannot be questioned. The 61-year-old man, reportedly, tried to commit suicide in the afternoon of the crash.

In the mean time, the Yambol municipality began a charity campaign to collect funds for the families of the victims.
