Over 31 kilos of heroin, ready to be taken across the Serbian border, have been caught during a special police operation.

Employees of the Main Directorate "Criminal Police" and of the "Border Police" have worked on the case for three weeks, the Interior Ministry press center informs.

They had information about the scheduled meeting between two Bulgarian nationals - N.H., 34, from the city of Kardzhali and Y.A., 41, from the town of Dragoman and their drug trafficking plan across the border to Serbia.

The authorities waited for the two men to begin unloading floor parquet boxes from one of the car and then made to move to arrest them. The heroin was hidden inside the factory sealed boxes. The police uncovered 60 packages of 520 grams each.

The search of N.H.'s car led to the discovery of two more heroin packages.

The arrest happened around 6:00 pm in the vicinity of the border town of Dragoman.

The authorities believe the illegal drug was coming from Turkey in transit to Serbia.

The investigation continues and the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has been notified.
