Bulgarian municipal councilor, Georgi Ivanov, has proposed that all Burgas councilors in the Black Sea city of Burgas, are tested for drugs and alcohol before and after each meeting.

Ivanov has officially proposed the idea to local lawmakers and it is expected that a vote will be held on the issue at the next Burgas City Council meeting.

Ivanov suggested the tests to make sure that all the important decisions made for the future of Burgas are made by people who are fully aware of what they are doing and that they are not handicapped by stimulants that disturb their judgment, BGNES reported Wednesday.

This proposal has actually been passed elsewhere in the world; In the US state of Georgia a law required all politicians be tested for drugs before being allowed on the ballot. The US Supreme Court ruled this law unconstitutional on April 15, 1997.
