1 068 businessmen set up a Bulgarian Industrial Chamber (BIC) in Sofia Friday vowing to promote measures against the financial crisis effects.

The Bulgarian energy tycoon, Hristo Kovachki, who is also the informal leader of the centrist LIDER party, was elected Chair of the new organization.

Kovachki, who is the second richest Bulgarian according to the 2008 ranking of the Polish magazine Wprost, was also the Chair of the Initiative Committee for the founding of the new association.

"Bulgaria's problems in the economic sphere are growing, and amidst the global financial and economic crisis, the governing Bulgarian politicians are not undertaking any adequate measures. Our aim here is to become a large family in order to defend the interests of Bulgarian entrepreneurs. I am here as the representative of 30 000 employees", Kovachki said in his address to the founding assembly.

In his words, the Bulgarian businessmen had social responsibilities, and were in fact realizing what the politicians had promised.

"We have one goal - to make Bulgaria a better place to live in", the Chair of the new organization said.

After founding BIC, its members approved a package of anti-crisis measures which are yet to be presented before the media.
