The warm and dry weather this spring has left Bulgarian farmers worried about a very poor year for their corn and wheat crops.

Unexpected weather changes in Eastern Europe have affected the whole region's wheat and it badly needs welcome rainfalls to boost wheat production this season, commodityonline.com reported.

In Bulgaria and Serbia, farmers no longer expect record high crops, with reports suggesting a tragic yield of 3.2 tons per hectare compared with last years yield of over 5 tons in some areas.

The USDA projects a sharp reduction in European Community wheat this season pegging the new crop at 138,3 M metric tons compared with 151,5 M tons last season.

They reported that unusual springtime heat has contributed to moisture stress in Poland and other East Europe wheat areas in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria.
