US Vice-President Joe Biden said Wednesday in Belgrade that America did not expect Serbia would recognize the independence of Kosovo.

After Biden's meeting with Serbian President Boris Tadic, Tadic declared that ten years after the US-led NATO bombed Serbia and a year after USA recognized independent Kosovo, he hoped the two countries could open a new page in their relations, BGNES reported.

"We have a respect for the victims of all side, and we expect the same respect for our own victims", Tadic stated.

"We want to see Serbia take its right place in Europe as a strong, successful, democratic state playing a constructive role in the region. We don't expect that Belgrade would recognize Kosovo but we expect that it would cooperate with the EU and other key international partners in Kosovo", said Vice-President Biden who is the highest ranking US official to visit Belgrade after President Jimmy Carter visited then Yugoslavia in 1980.

After his visits to Sarajevo and Belgrade, Biden is heading for Kosovo's capital Prishtina on Thursday.
