Number One Spanish Judge Bezmudez Arrives in Bulgaria

The most famous and guarded Spanish magistrate, Judge Javier Gomez Bermudez, has arrived in Bulgaria Wednesday.

Bezmudez is in Bulgaria at the invitation of the "Journalists against Corruption" Club. He will take part in a seminar organized by the Club, and in the presentation of documentary of the Club Chair, Reneta Nikolova, "Spain - Judicial Model, Good Practices".

The Bulgarian authorities have taken unprecedented security measures as Judge Bermudez is on the target list of the Basque separatist organization ETA.

Bezmudez is Chair of the Penal Department of the National Court of Spain for organized crime, terrorism and money laundering.

He is also the judge in the case for the largest crime in the history of contemporary Europe - the terrorist attack on the Madrid train station Atocha on March 11, 2004, in which 192 people were killed and over 2 000 were wounded.
