Ship owners must be provided with better safety measures or they will have to take their security in their own hands.

The statement was made Monday before Darik radio by Tsvetan Gadev, Manager of the "B Navy Bulgaria" company, representative of the Italian "B Navy Ship Management", manager of the "Malaspina Castle" ship that was hijacked on April 6 with 16 Bulgarian sailors on board.

According to Gadev, Bulgarian crews were crossing the Gulf on a daily basis while halting ship travels there was impossible.

Gadev declined to offer any comments on the alleged USD 2,5 M ransom paid for the "Malaspina Castle" sailors, but defined the negotiations as successful because similar talks usually lasted over 2 months.

In the mean time, the wives of the Malaspina Castle Bulgarian skipper and his firs aid said that they were fully aware of the risk but would not demand from their husbands to quit the job and will let them make their own decision.

Both women said that they were constantly in touch with their husbands during the entire ordeal, praised the efforts of the "B Navy Company" and declined commenting on the reaction of the Bulgarian State.
