The opposition, right-wing Blue Coalition is filing a claim with the Supreme Administrative Court against the CEC registration of former UDF leader, Plamen Yurukov.

The information was confirmed by the elected leader of the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) party, Martin Dimitrov, at a special press conference Monday.

Bulgaria's Central Election Commission (CEC) for the upcoming European Parliament (EP) elections registered UDF under the name of their former and suspended leader Plamen Yurukov.

Alexander Alexandrov, a spokesman for the CEC, confirmed the move late Sunday, saying that 22 997 signatures had been presented supporting the registration made by Yurukov in late April, BGNES reported.

Earlier Sunday, the leader of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB), Ivan Kostov, and the current unofficial, elected leader of UDF, Martin Dimitrov, filed the documents of the so-called "Blue Coalition" after collecting a total of 50 000 signatures supporting their registration attempt.

At the Monday press conference, Kostov stated that the country will witness the first signs of recession as early as the current week, adding the right-wing was alarmed by the deepening of the crisis in Bulgaria, and the squandering of the country's last resources.

According to Kostov, the anti-crisis plan of the Cabinet was failing and in the next months the currency peg was going to face great troubles while the two deficits - the current account and the budget one will lead to serious risks for the country.

Martin Dimitrov also offered a gloomy picture of Bulgaria's near future in case the negative trends continued with the upcoming unemployment boom, and the inability of individuals and businesses to repay their loans.

The Coalition's leaders stated the need of urgent measures to reduce budget spending, and insurance requirements, to halt the big infrastructure projects, and the "insane" plan to build the Belene Nuclear Power Plant.

Regarding the Court appeal Martin Dimitrov said he firmly believes the magistrates would reject Yurukov's registration.

"A party is a community of individuals and when its leadership makes a coalition decision, no one has the right to change or forge this decision," Dimitrov stated.

The registration scandal erupted on April 30 when Yurukov submitted documents for the UDF's solo running in the upcoming European Parliament elections after a court refused to register the recently elected leadership of the party.

The new UDF leadership, led by Dimitrov, had decided months ago to run in coalition with the other rightist opposition party - the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) and their leader, Ivan Kostov.

Last week the UDF leadership suspended Yurukov's membership along with that of former Chief Party Secretary, Plamen Radanov.
