Bulgaria's Central Election Commission (CEC) for the upcoming EP elections has registered UDF under the name of their former and suspended leader Plamen Yurukov.

Alexander Alexandrov, a spokesman for the CEC, confirmed the move late Sunday, said that 22 997 signatures had been presented supporting the registration made by Yurukov in late April, BGNES reported.

Earlier Sunday, the leader of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB), Ivan Kostov, and the current unofficial leader of the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF), Martin Dimitrov, filed the documents of the so-called "Blue Coalition" after collecting a total of 50 000 signatures supporting their registration attempt.

The registration scandal erupted on April 30 when Yurukov submitted documents for the UDF's solo running in the upcoming European Parliament elections after a court refused to register the recently elected leadership of the party.

The new UDF leadership, led by Dimitrov, had decided months ago to run in coalition with the other rightist opposition party - the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) and their leader, Ivan Kostov.

Last week the UDF leadership suspended Yurukov's membership along with that of former Chief Party Secretary, Plamen Radanov.
