Two British citizens have received suspended sentences for hooliganism and vandalism from the Razgrad Regional Court in North-East Bulgaria.

The two 46-year-old UK citizens who live in the village of Kostandenets near the town of Tsar Kaloyan were arrested in March 2008 for causing carnage in a local bar, municipality radio ‘Razgrad' reported Friday.

The incident in March 2008, in which the two Brits behaved ‘indecently', left the bar in Tsar Kaloyan destroyed. Three wooden tables, the parapet of the staircase, chairs, glasses and other bar furniture were broken by the ‘hooligans'.

The Court ruled that along with the 6 month - 3 year suspended sentence the accused should pay BGN 912 to the bar for replacing the destroyed possessions and should also pay the interest on this sum.

This is the first such incident tried by the Razgrad Regional Court that has involved foreign citizens.
