The National counsel of Bulgaria's UDF party has decided to suspend the membership of former party leader Plamen Yurukov.

The Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) counsel also agreed to suspend former Chief Party Secretary, Plamen Radanov, voting for the suspensions with an overwhelming majority of 62 votes to 4 votes, thus supporting the unofficial leader Martin Dimitrov who had originally called for the vote.

8 other party members were also suspended due to the document filing scandal that caused such controversy last week, Darik Radio reported.

The scandal started on April 30 when Yurukov filed documents for the UDF's solo participation in the upcoming elections with the Central Election Committee.

The new UDF leadership had decided months ago to run in coalition with the other rightist opposition party - the Democrats for Strong Bulgarian (DSB) and their leader, Ivan Kostov.

Dimitrov, the UDF unofficial leader, declared he was going to ask the UDF leadership to suspend Yurukov's party membership along with Radonov's last Thursday.
