Bulgarian Emigrants Start Mass Return from Greece

Bulgarian emigrants in Greece have started to return en mass to Bulgaria according to the chairman of the new party The Other Bulgaria.

Bozhidar Tomalevski, chairman of the initiative committee of The Other Bulgaria party, stated on a working visit to Greece, that Bulgarian emigrants are struggling to find work in the country because of the global financial crisis and that they have started to return in large numbers to Bulgaria.

He predicted that there could be a wave of up to 150 000 Bulgarians returning from Greece over the next year out of an estimated total of 360 000 Bulgarians currently living in Greece, BGNES reported.

Tomalevski added that the Bulgarian government must deal with the problem of illegal Bulgarian workers in Greece. He stated that his party, which was set up by Bulgarian emigrants, would put forward new, adequate political measures to assist Bulgarian emigrants and their families.

Tomalevski also opened two new party offices in Thessaloniki and Serres during his visit and concluded that a new party office would also open soon in the Bulgarian town of Razlog.
