French Warship Captures 11 Pirates near Somalia

The French warship "Nivose" has captured 11 pirates near the Somalia cost.

The news was reported by Darik radio, citing the news agency France Press (AFP).

The pirates have been armed with two machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades.

The alleged pirates had three vessels and attacked the French warship by mistake, obviously believing it was a cargo ship. Nivose has been traveling against the sun and could not have been easily distinguished, The crew let the pirates come close enough and then counterattacked them with boats and a chopper.

The incident happened about 500 maritime miles east of the Kenyan port of Mombasa.

This is the third time "Nivose" has been able to capture alleged pirates.
