Far left protesters have been detained in Russia on May Day over fear of escalating violence and protest clashes.
In the capital Moscow, a few members of the far left organizations "Red Youth Vanguard" and "Left Front" were arrested for lightning torches, and later released.
120 people were arrested in Saint Petersburg prior to a May Day demonstration. In police officials words, they were endangering the public order. There were 20 members of nationalist movements, and several antifascists and anarchists among the detained ones.
