Leading media in the Republic of Macedonia have reported of a "Greek-Bulgarian plot against Macedonian identity".

The Skopje newspapers Dnevnik and Vreme published Thursday articles dedicated to the the book "The Macedonian Question and Bulgaria - Secret Documents 1950-1967", which was presented in Athens by its Greek author, Professor Spiridon Sfetas.

The book is a joint publication of the Greek Society for Macedonian Studies and the Bulgarian State Archive.

The Skopje media are especially enraged by the statement of the Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyanni that "Bulgarian documents show that the Macedonian Question in the recent years is largely an idealogical construction of the Cold War".

According to the Macedonian publications, Macedonia's historians were not familiar yet with the documents that Professor Sfetas book contained but they had stated in advance the book would most likely contained materials negating the Macedonian national identity.
